Joan Gucciardi of Summit Benefit and Actuarial Services, Inc. (located in Oregon and Wisconsin) is a senior consulting actuary. She received an Honors Bachelor of Science in Math from Marquette University, and has been enrolled as an actuary under ERISA since 1976. She has co-authored 5 successful books, including The 401(k) Answer Book, 5500 Preparer's Manual, and The Pension Distribution Answer Book. Co-Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of Pension Benefits, she is also a former vice president and board member of the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries. She has served on the Advisory Board for the Employee Benefits Graduate Program at John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois. Additionally, she received ASPPA’s Educator Award in 2002.
